October Cyber Security Awareness Month
Cyber Security Is OUR Shared Responsibility
October 2011 was National Cyber Security Awareness Month and this year's theme focused on "Cyber Security is OUR Shared Responsibility," one of the basic tenets of implementing security. As part of this national effort, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo proclaimed October as Cyber Security Awareness Month in New York State and issued a proclamation to help raise awareness about how to be safe online.
In recognition of Awareness Month, the NYS Office of Cyber Security, in partnership with the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the National Cyber Security Alliance and the National Association of State Chief Information Officers, created a toolkit with free awareness materials to assist organizations in educating employees, partners and citizens about cyber security.
The toolkit below includes cyber security themed posters, calendars, bookmarks, guides, brochures, and other content. The toolkit is designed to promote the delivery of a consistent cyber security awareness message by reinforcing core themes in practical, informative, entertaining, and usable ways. Everyone is encouraged to use the information to promote cyber security awareness.

About STOP. THINK. CONNECT.
The Internet offers a world of opportunities. People of all ages share photos and videos, build online profiles, text each other, and create avatars. This manner of socializing and communicating can be fulfilling, however there are associated risks.

The Stop. Think. Connect. Campaign is a national public awareness campaign aimed at increasing the understanding of cyber threats and empowering the American public to be safer and more secure online.
The campaign offers the following advice when using the Internet:
- Stop - Before you use the Internet, take time to understand the risks and learn how to spot potential problems.
- Think - Take a moment to be certain the path ahead is clear. Watch for warning signs and consider how your actions online could impact you or your family's safety.
- Connect - Enjoy the Internet with confidence. Take the right steps to safeguard yourself and your computer.
