OFPC has been made aware of some compatibility issues between the Fire Reporting System (NFIRS) and Windows Vista ®. These incompatibilities are not limited to the OFPC On-Line Fire Reporting, but also with many third party software programs (e.g., Red Alert, Firehouse, etc.) These compatibility issues may result in unusual error messages, failure of reports to be saved, and formatting errors. Microsoft is aware of the incompatibilities and may be issuing a patch to correct these problems.
At the present time OFPC recommends that users should consider not changing to Windows Vista ® until after the patch has been issued by Microsoft. Microsoft has indicated that a patch may be available sometime this Fall. No specific date was given.
At this time it is unknown as to whether Microsoft ® intends to work with the third party software vendors to resolve the incompatibilities.
For the interim, if you have already installed Vista ®, and you are experiencing behavior problems when accessing the OFPC On-Line reporting system or using a third party software program, you should locate an accessible computer using Windows XP ® as the operating system. Whether you use a third party software program or the OFPC On-Line reporting system, you will need to use a WindowsXP ® computer for all reporting requirements.
OFPC will keep all users informed of the progress on these issues as we are made aware.
