Duties and Responsibilities

  • Annual fire/life safety inspections of State Office Buildings.
  • Enforces fire safety requirements in State University of New York (SUNY), community colleges, and independent colleges.
  • Provides fire safety-related training for Tenant Safety Organizations, college residential staff and students, personnel responsible for the inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire protection systems.
  • Provides technical assistance on code compliance issues and fire and life safety improvements.
  • Cigarette Fire Safety standards.
  • Coordinates OFPC public fire safety education efforts.
  • Promotes fire safety education programs and Fire & Life Safety Education curriculum.
  • Coordinates OFPC involvement with Team New York Risk Watch Coalition, Firewise Communities, Capital District Safe Kids, Dr. Martin Luther King Activities and the Fire and Security Alarm Industry Board.
