Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administers NYS Minimum Training Standards for Firefighters and Code Enforcement Personnel, conducts Candidate Physical Ability Testing Program.
  • Conducts over 1,400 Basic and Advanced Firefighter Training classes in over 55 counties using 310 Part-time State Fire Instructors.
  • Driver/operator training.
  • Administers the State Fire Mobilization and Mutual Aid Plan.
  • On-scene technical assistance and routine liaison with county and local fire service officials.

Silo Fire Information

Given the recent event of a silo fire and the tragic loss of Assistant Chief Garrett Loomis of the Sackets Harbor Fire Department in Jefferson County, OFPC is posting resource material on agricultural silo fires to assist fire departments when making decisions regarding strategies and tactics when confronted with a fire in a silo. Out of State Training

Chapter 236 of the Laws of 2006 requires each fire department in New York State to report attendance of firefighters at out-of-state training schools to the Office of Fire Prevention and Control. This law is effective on October 24, 2006.
