Advanced Education in Fire Science Programs
Corning Community College
Corning Community College (CCC) offers an Associate in Occupational Studies degree in Fire Protection Technology. The program consists primarily of fire related courses and includes college courses in English and mathematics. Certain courses are required. However, students may select electives from either fire science courses or from appropriate college courses. The A.O.S. degree is awarded upon completion of 68.5 hours of study, 30 hours of which must be residency credit.
Students can receive CCC residency credit for fire science courses taught at the Academy of Fire Science and other approved outreach sites. First, you must matriculate in the A.O.S. degree program by submitting an application, your official high school transcript, and any college transcripts to the CCC admissions office. When you receive your acceptance letter, you are considered a "matriculated" student at CCC.
If you have previously matriculated at CCC, it may not be necessary to apply again. To find out about your status, call the Registration and Records Office at 1-800-358-7171, ext. 443. However, every time you register for a course offered by OFPC at the above locations, you must simultaneously register with CCC to receive the residency credit. There is no fee, but you must register for the credit.
