Citizen Preparedness Corps Training
The Citizen Preparedness Corps (CPC) training began in February 2014. Its purpose is to teach people how to prepare for disaster or emergency situations. The course includes information about the types of risks and hazards people face. It teaches how to develop individual and household plans. The training also encourages all to think about and save needed emergency supplies. Learning how to help yourself and others in advance will help you react faster when facing a crisis.
The CPC provides two types of trainings – Bag events and Non-bag events - that last between 60 and 90 minutes. The New York National Guard teach the classes. Training locations must meet the standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Bag events require that the location be open to the public for the training. Individuals must register on the Division's website prior to the event. At least 50 individuals must sign up or it will be cancelled or rescheduled. An emergency go-bag will be available (one per family) at the end of the class. The Non-bag events do not need to be open to the public and do not require registration in advance. These events are usually given to organizations, clubs or groups.
